I wish I could help more I was just tremedously successful at sales but I do track my own product. I subscribe to magazines within my industry-online- they are always ahead of the trends.
Fortune for small business by American Express is always ahead of the curve. I have an AMEX Gold card and they send the magazine automatically and it covers all types of industries. This may sound strange but the farmers almanac always predicts trends and is pretty accurate. Comes out in Dec Jan each year. Do some street surveys. These are just practical applications. I don't know much about charts or stuff.
hope this helps.
If you wish to know the trends in the internet/electronic industry there is a magazine put out by the Adult network that is so far ahead of normal trends in that area. They were the original innovators of a lot of the systems we use today. Unfortuantely I have forgotten the name but they track the adult network sites on the internet.

(With all due respect to ALL the messages)
OK...there are many contradicting advices that you've been given. Some say that you are stuck until the listing contract expires others tell you that you can cancel it any time. You might be asking, which one is it?

This is what I can tell you, a contract has 2 or more agreeing parties, meaning they have a meeting of their minds for one objective. The same way if both parties decide to cancel the contract it can be done as well. With that said, I suggest you first go talk to the employing broker (usually the owner of the company the agents works for) and let him/her know the shitty (excuse my French) this agent has done and if they dont want to be mentioned to the Better Business Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission AND the Department of Real Estate in your state than they better shape up that agent to actually do some work. If you rather not work with him anymore tell them nicely that you want the contract cancelled and release you from the listing with them because of the work ethic of that agent.

I seriously suggest you do not get all upset and demand things because they can make your life miserable. The contract CAN be cancelled but they can give you hell before and you seriously do not need that, you just want an agent that will work for your best interest not his/hers.

So, all in all YOU CAN FIRE an agent if he is not performing, all you have to do is have them release the listing and cancel the contract. Of course that if you end up selling the home to someone that this agent has brought the attention to the house and could have possibly sold it to them than the agent is entitled to the commission.

One last thing which I want to make it very clear, DO NOT take this message as legal or contractual advice. I am very aware of the law and because of this I cannot give you legal advice that is what lawyers are for. BUT all I told you above is my opinion and it could be very beneficial to you if you enforce it.

Good luck and next time dont wait so long to fire an agent that is not performing. Your home is the best investment you will ever make in your life so you should safeguard it like such.

The best advise I can give you these days with gas prices is that you really need to utilize any phone skills you may have...contact businesses that are in retail...get them interested in your gift and set us sales appts...focus on one area at a time...make your sales appts in the same area to avoid excessive traveling and wasted time...an average sales appt. will take you usually approx. 15-20 minutes a good one will take you about 30-45 minutes and if it is over an hour you know you have thier business! set up each appt an hour apart so that you have time to get from one appt to the next...always take a phone list with you so you can bump back potential customers if you are running behind...you may need to reschedule you next appt so that you can stick to the remaining schedule for the day if this would be one of your first appts that has put you behind...if you are doing personal sales of gifts and candels you can still focus on shops and businesses...when I worked at a financial company we had a few sales people whom had family and friends that worked with me... they would send a little sample basket to work and several pamplets and put them in the womans restroom and we would go in use lotion, smell candels etc and would put in our orders...this may not work for you but is worth a shot...another thing to think about is shops...go to the convience stores and shops in your area...the people behind the counter will have a "slow time" and your booklet on products may be just the thing the wanted shop on the clock whats better then that:) You can also schedule a time to "just drop back bye and visit with employees of the shops" when they are slower...you go out of your way to visit with them more then 50% of the time you will land a sale...Good Luck!

Can't really say they are bad tools. It might do everything you need it to do.
You get what you pay for and there's a reason why a high-end 10' slider will run you about $450.
The main points are:
accuracy (it says 17 degrees, but is it)
design (does the action of using it feel natural; can you safely see where you are cutting)
durability (how much use can it take before the motor, bearings, switches begin failing)

I would say you'll be better off saving up to get a good tool than buying the one you have enough for right now.

Since you brought up the Bible.....back in the day there was a town called Sodom . It was said to not even have a handful of good people in it. A man named Lot lived there in the middle of all the bad. God got him and his wife out and destroyed the town. The thing was that the Bible called him righteous but he wasn't perfect. No one is perfect....but we are righteous if we believe that Jesus is God's son and came to die so that we can live. True story.

This may not be doable in your case, but I try to get to work at least an hour ahead of the rest of my staff. I use this time to organize my day and the daily work schedule into two categories:

1. Work due by end of day
2. Work due by end of week

Sometimes, dates or projects will have to move because a more important project will suddenly arise. That's just the nature of our business. But I find that if look at everything that is going on on a daily basis, it's a lot easier to stay on top of things and to identify situations that may jeopardize deadlines or budgets ahead of time.

Another thing I do is a maintain a Weekly Production Schedule (produced as an Excel document), which I review with my staff every Monday and Thursday. Monday's meeting is basically to provide everyone a look at the week ahead and Thursday's meeting is to make sure we are going to meet all assignments due by the end of the week. The Weekly Production Schedule lists all jobs by category:

Catalogs
Sales Collateral
POP
Magazine Ads
Mall Displays
Direct Mail
e-Commerce

Each project in each category has its own time line of due dates: concepts, copy, layouts, proofs, revised proofs, final layouts, color proofs, printing date, insertion date, in-store delivery, etc. This helps to keep every project on schedule.

I also hold a weekly Marketing meeting with the merchandising team so they can be kept abreast of all deadlines.

Like you, I also spend a lot of time in meetings, traveling, training, etc. I know that without the few organizational tools I've outlined here, I'd be sunk.

Good luck.
